That’s the simple version. But there were spiritual guides from times past and places farther afield: Byron and Shelley, Pythagoras and Leadbelly, Voltaire and Sophocles, Michelangelo and King David. “Explorers of the mind and soul,” saysEron.
In his rich artistic life, Eron has been a poet, essayist, novelist and magazine editor. Now he is also a singer-songwriter, embellishing his writing with music for the first time. For Eron, there is no distinction between the disciplines: “If Lord Byron were alive today,” he declares confidently, “he would be a rock’n'roll singer.”
This might be a new chapter in his story but Eron Falbo has already been garlanded with testimonials from men with half a century and more in the music industry: musicians who have seen aspiring newcomers turn into rock superstars before their eyes and ears.
“Eron is a true world musician,” says Kerry Marx, the veteran Nashville session guitarist who has played with superstars from Johnny Cash to Bob Dylan and Elton John. “He borrows from a lot of different styles of music. He’s got one foot in history – he’s steeped in Sixties music – but a real modern thing too.”
“He’s a deep thinker,” adds Shane Keister, another Nashville music man with decades of experience, playing keyboards with everyone from Elvis Presley to Kris Kristofferson. “I really like his lyrics: he’s got a lot to say.”
This, for Eron, is important. Words are the foundations of his songs, music the bricks and mortar that hold them together. He recorded his album in Nashville, Tennessee, because that is where some of his favourite records were made. And to complete his homage, he tracked down the man who made them.
The American leg of Eron’s journey began when he embarked on a search for the man who produced much of the music – the words and music – that inspired him. A man who can claim to have sold “half a billion albums.”
Back in the 1960s Bob Johnston produced landmark records including Bob Dylan’s ‘Blonde on Blonde,’ Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Sounds of Silence’ and – most pertinently of all – ‘Songs from a Room,’ the record that turned a young Canadian poet called Leonard Cohen into a musical icon.
Nearly half a century later, Eron Falbo tried to coax him back into the studio. It was a long shot just to find a semi-retired music producer in his 70s and persuade him to produce an unknown young poet and would-be musician from Brazil. But he did it.
“I had set my heart on finding Bob because those records he produced are the ones that inspired me to make music,” he says. “But he was impossible to reach because he has no internet. I had more or less given up hope of contacting him when I came across his son’s phone number by chance, on a folk music internet forum.”
After making initial contact, Eron and Johnston Jnr exchanged emails over a period of months – more than a hundred in all – finding a shared vision of music. ”We quickly discovered that we have the same ideas about music: a vision that, for both of us, was formed in the 1960s and found its full expression in 1973. That’s partly why we’ve called the album ’73.”
Finally he made direct contact with Bob by telephone. ”I had emailed him files of my demo recordings but, because he has never used the internet, he had only seen the lyrics. So I sang my songs to him down the phone. Right away, he wanted to get back into the studio with me.”
Eron flew to Austin, Texas, to meet Johnston and discuss his plans for the record before they relocated to Nashville and took up residence at Dark Horse Recordings where some of the biggest names in country music have recorded – Taylor Swift, Faith Hill, Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Waylon Jennings and many more.
Johnston assembled a studio band of seasoned veterans – “some of the best musicians I knew,” he says – and two days later they had an album. “It’s a sonofabitch,” says Johnston. “I think he’s gonna be very successful. I think it’ll be glorious.”
Kassof Study: Oldies/Classic Hits P1s Are Big On Nostalgia

For the past week, Mark Kassof & Co.have been releasing format-by-format results from the 2013ListenerThinksurvey. Monday brings us news that like most listeners, Oldies/Classic Hits P1s listen more than anything else to get in a better mood and to relax. What makes them different is that they (along with Urban P1s) are the top nostalgia listeners. Their listening to bring back memories of a specific time, place or event is well above average, as 38 percent of those surveyed said nostalgia is "very important" and 37 percent said "somewhat important." Another way these listeners deviate from average is that they don't seek as much excitement from their format. When asked if they listen to radio for excitement, only 18 percent of Oldies/Classic Hits P1s said that it "very important." Twenty-four percent said "not at all important." Finally, the Kassof study shows that Oldies/Classic Hits P1s are less motivated than most when it comes to listening "to hear things that get you thinking" or "to hear what other people are talking or thinking about."
MEMPHIS TN (IFS) --If you have the Comcast Xnifinty internet services, I pity the fools, as Mr. T. would say, and that's includes me. In the beginning the service was fine, than after twelve months with them, they began to fall very short of their promises.
It all began when on extended leave out of the Tennessee area, when the credit card that was being used, expired, and there was no other way to get back in time to renew the card numbers, as it was in the hands of the post office.
Comcast immediately calls and ask what would I like to do? I tell them that I would be home in a couple of weeks and to just place me in a "holding pattern" until I get back into town and give them the new numbers and expiration date of the new card. They agreed and allegedly that was that so we lead to believe.
Upon our return, we found that, Comcast had came to the house and cut the the wires, but also had placed our account with a collection agency.
The past bill was paid in an instant and they were to "turn-on' the switch as restore - the services. After one hour on hold and several disconnects, it was discovered, that Comcast had cut the lines, and had scheduled a turn on date by computer for the following Tuesday, two weeks away.
Tuesday comes. No tech, no service and unable to raise Comcast. Going to their "automatic" service center, it was discovered that the appointment had been moved to the end of the week, only after we had called them to verify that they were coming that day.
They use the words, " we apologize" so frequently, it has become curse words.
What I strongly suggest, is that if you want to use Comcast internet services with their "bate and switch" tactics" go ahead. But as for me, I've had it with them and going to dump them all together for misrepresentation and lying all the time. They can not live up to their words of "service" for any reason. If you really want good services, don't use them!
What did the five fingers say to Dave Chappelle? GIMME MY MONEY BACK!!
Chappelle
is under fire after storming off the stage at a comedy show in
Connecticut last night. The comic apparently had a meltdown after being
heckled by people in the crowd.
Chappelle had only been on stage
for a few minutes when he started to become frustrated with the number
of comments from the audience.
Chappelle stopped his routine --
lectured the crowd about heckling -- and then quietly sat on a stool for
the next 25 minutes before finally walking off stage.
At
one point during the meltdown, Chappelle told the crowd -- "I f**ked up
when I left my show, you know why? 'Cause my show only has to be 22
minutes of television. I could've went on television, I could've read
the phone book for 22 minutes and I would've got $50 million dollars. I
shoulda done that sh*t but my ego wouldn't let me. Tonight is different.
Tonight my contract says 25 minutes and I have 3 minutes left. and when
my 3 minutes is up, my ass is gone."
When people started to boo the comic, Chappelle responded, "You're booing yourself."
After the show, dozens of fans demanded a refund.
It's not the first time Chappelle has exhibited bizarre behavior -- he stopped his show in Miami back in 2011 to check his text messages ... and in 2010, he "freaked out" on a flight from Jersey to Ohio.

wife says she carried a loaded handgun through airport security this
week BY ACCIDENT ... a gun she owned because of death threats she had
been receiving ... this according to the police report stemming from her
arrest.
TMZ broke the story ... 51-year-old Shemane Dezielwas busted Thursday morning at Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport for bringing a gun into the terminal.
But
according to the police report, she didn't just bring the gun into the
terminal ... she actually left it in her carry-on bag to bring it onto
the plane ... and it was LOADED.
TSA screeners said they spotted
the Smith & Wesson 38 special revolver on an x-ray monitor, and when
police inspected Deziel's luggage, they noticed it was loaded with 5
rounds of ammunition with an additional 10 rounds packed in a side
pocket of her bag.
Shemane said she had forgotten the gun was in her bag, but stated she had a concealed handgun license in Texas.
After
Shemane was placed under arrest, she told police she began to carry the
gun for protection after receiving death threats. She didn't specify
where the threats were coming from or why she was receiving them. The
gun and ammo were seized as evidence.
Most people know Sean Hyman from his regular appearances on Fox Business, CNBC, and Bloomberg Television, but what they don’t know is that Sean is a former pastor, and that his secret to investing is woven within the Bible.

During a recent private dinner with Sean, once he’d blessed the food, I wasted no time asking him what his secret is for investing so successfully.
I expected Sean to say that it was his years of experience at Charles Schwab or perhaps one of the complicated algorithms he uses for timing the stock market.
So when Sean responded that his secret to investing was the Bible, I was thoroughly shocked.
Yes, I knew Sean was a Christian (anyone who spends more than 1 minute with him will pick that up!). However, people usually keep their faith separate from things like . . . investing.

MEMPHIS TN (IFS) -- George Zimmerman walks. Not a surprise on the verdict when you are trying to convict someone on a second degree charge, with only the survivor left standing. It's really crazy that a young woman in Sanford, Florida with a restraining order from the court against her spouse, receives 20 years in prison for discharging a firearm into the sky for attempting to scare off the spouse. Yet, George Zimmerman kills a child -- that he instigated the situation and he walks. Not even a slap on the hand for discharging a firearm in city limits.
At some point in the fight, one person is going to put a serious hurting on the other, when you know that one is loosing the fight of his life -- equalizers perhaps? A gun versus the concrete sidewalk.
Just look at the location of the trial. It's obvious, that there is a war on all black males in Northern Florida and generally in the United States. It's not going to get any better. A wannabe cop kills a child and walks away. If you attacked a child, a dog, any animal -- you will go to jail in a heartbeat.
The Martin Family also knew that this verdict was a possibility must be heartbroken, and they were very civil and over and beyond the call of duty. The strength of these family members is more then enough to take your breath away. These are great citizens who has been harmed greatly, and day in and day out, keeping their emotions in check and letting the laws work.
Trayvon Martin did not die in vane. A lot of laws are going to change all across the country. This is just the beginning. The civil lawsuit is coming next. Remember O. J. Simpson? He won and lost at the same time.
So, the court says, that you can stalk, shadow, lie in wait, you can also follow a person with a firearm in your hand or in your belt, and that you can kill a child and get away with it. No jail time. Killing young black men is justified because you are driving, walking, just being within the same space -- you are guilty and deserve to die for just breathing the air.

At what point, does an out and out ass-whopping turns into a gun fight? Mr. Zimmerman's attorneys proved that the State of Florida did not have a case and did and could not prove their case. The Defense proved that it was just an old fashion one on one fight with Zimmerman fighting for his life, as this child was taking him to task.
Mr. Zimmerman wins the day. However, his life will not be worth to much. He will not be able to get a job anywhere. He will be hunted down like a rabid dog and will be hounded all the days of his life.
He would have been better to have been founded guilty of "Manslaughter" and get the sentenced over with and go on with his life.
He will be a marked man for life. There will be harassment and constance bullying from people just to get Mr. Zimmerman to draw down. I hope Mr. Zimmerman keeps a firearm in his position, because he will really need one.
Mr. Zimmerman's life is worthless, yet he gets a free pass to destroy another persons life for just being in a place where he was going home. Mr. Zimmerman is a killer and a child abuser. God bless America. A land where we eat our young and place our elders in harms way.
MEMPHIS TN (IFS) -- I love Paula Deen. Even written a song about her several years ago. I always believed that you protect, seniors and babies. I am sadden that something that someone said over twenty-five odd years ago, can come back and crush you like stomping on a soda pop can.
It appears that the timing is absolute when it comes to dropping someone from the ticket. Paula Deen's firing and other problems comes all at once. I believe that the cake is burning in the kitchen and the higher powers have decided that she is a threat and maybe stepped on the toes of one of the bosses and this is retaliation for past sins.
If Paula really said those things in the presences of other employees, she is indeed in trouble. But if these sound bits are taken out of context and falsely accuses Paula of something that is not true, this too is a crime. Not one announcement does it make to destroy a Multi-million dollar business and drive success out of the window overnight. This whole thing stinks and the timing is calculated.
People do change. And thank God for it. I am sure that I was a rotten kid and did and said horrible things about people. Alot of them my opinions are still firm, and others, I have done a complete "turnaround". We are all in that position.
Where are our Christian values? We forgave Jimmy Swaggart, Tiger Woods and many others. Heck, we even forgive people who cross over into our country, we give them peace, love and shelter and sometime, a free citizenship.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Watching Paula Deen's cooking show was a weekend ritual for Marilynne Wilson, who says she's furious at the Food Network for dumping the comfort-food queen after she acknowledged using racial slurs in the past.
"I was shocked. I thought she'd get a fair trial," Wilson, a nurse from Jacksonville, Fla., said Saturday after stopping to buy souvenirs at the gift shop Deen owns next to her Savannah restaurant. "I think the Food Network jumped the gun."
A day after announcing that it's dropping Deen from its roster of celebrity cooks, the cable network was served heaping portions of Southern fried outrage by her fans.
Angry messages piled up Saturday on the network's Facebook page, with many Deen fans threating to change the channel for good. "So good-bye Food Network," one viewer wrote. "I hope you fold like an accordion!!!"
The decision to drop Deen, whose daytime shows have been a Food Network fixture since 2002, came two days after disclosure of a recent court deposition in which Deen was asked under oath if she had ever used the N-word. "Yes, of course," 66-year-old Deen said, though she added, "It's been a very long time."
Deen and her brother are being sued by a former manager of their restaurant who says she was harassed and worked in an environment rife with innuendo and racial slurs.
Wilson's friend Debbie Brown said the Food Network is "basically convicting" Deen. "They should have waited until it goes to court," she said.
Deen issued a videotaped apology Friday in asking fans and critics alike for forgiveness. It had been posted online for about an hour when the Food Network released a terse statement that it "will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month." The network refused to comment further.
A representative for Deen did not immediately return a phone call and email message Saturday.
Meanwhile, Deen's critics were making themselves heard online. On Friday night, (hash)PaulaDeenTVShows became a top trending topic on Twitter, with postings that satirized familiar titles. Earlier in the week, they tweeted satirical names for recipes using (hash)PaulasBestDishes.
Deen's legal deposition was conducted last month as part of the 2012 lawsuit filed by Lisa Jackson, who worked at Uncle Bubba's Seafood and Oyster House. The lawsuit drew scant attention from news outlets until Deen was questioned under oath and her remarks became available to the public in a transcript.
On Saturday, the controversy didn't keep customers from The Lady & Sons, the restaurant owned by Deen and her sons in Savannah's downtown historic district.
"If you look at her restaurant here, I don't think it's going to hurt her too much," said Felipe Alexander, an Atlanta trucking company owner, as he waited on the sidewalk for his lunchtime reservation. He also said he didn't blame the Food Network for cutting Deen loose.
"If the network didn't want to be associated with somebody who used that word, it has the right to do that," Alexander said.
The fallout may not end with Food Network. At least two other companies that do business with Deen say they're keeping a close eye on the controversy. Las Vegas-based Caesars Entertainment Corporation, which has Deen's restaurants in some of its casinos, said Friday that it "will continue to monitor the situation." Publisher Ballantine, which has a new Deen book scheduled to roll out this fall, used similar words.
The heat over Deen's remarks hasn't been quite as intense in Savannah, where her success over the past decade has helped raise the coastal Georgia city's profile as a tourist magnet.
The head of Visit Savannah, the city's tourism bureau, weighed in on Deen's plight Saturday on Twitter.
"OK, I'll do it: what (at)Paula-Deen did was wrong," Joe Marinelli, Visit Savannah's president, tweeted. "But she's part of our (at)Savannah family and I'm here to support her."

Bill Maher Defends Paula Deen After Firing: ‘Do We Always Have to Make People Go Away?’

Bill Maher offered one of the rare public defenses of embattled celebrity chef Paula Deen on Friday, asking why “we always have to make people go away” for saying bad words.
Deen was dropped by the Food Network following her public apology after it emerged this week that she had admitted to using the n-word in the past.
“I’m just wondering,” Maher began on his HBO show “Real Time,” “if you’re 66 years old and you were raised in Georgia and you were a child before the civil rights movement, do you get a bit of a pass — ”
“No — ” members of his panel cut in.
” — or you say no, you’ve had 40 years to get used to — I agree,” Maher said. But he added a few moments later, “I also think people shouldn’t have to lose their shows and go away when they do something bad.”
“It’s just a word, it’s a wrong word, she’s wrong to use it, but do we always have to make people go away?” Maher asked.
The panel again disagreed, with former New York Times columnist Bob Herbert saying, “For me that word is the line…nobody should be using that word.”
Maher asked whether “we should ban rap records” and said that in America, “you’ve gotta be a free country, even to be an a–hole.”

Paula Deen Thanks Food Network for '11 Great Years' After Firing

Embattled celebrity cook Paula Deen issued a statement thanking the Food Network for 11 "great years" less than 24 hours after the cable channel announced it was dropping its longtime star following her admission that she used a racial slur in the past.
"I have had the pleasure of being allowed into so many homes across the country and meeting people who have shared with me the most touching and personal stories," Deen, 66, said in a statement released to CNN Friday night. "This would not have been possible without the Food Network. Thank you again. Love and best dishes to all of ya'll."
The Food Network announced on Friday that it would not renew Deen's contract when it expires at the end of the month. The announcement comes just days after news that Deen admitted in a May deposition to using the N-word several times in her past.
For more than a decade, Deen shined as one of the biggest stars of the Food Network and earned legions of fans – and some critics – for her brand of hearty Southern cooking.

On Friday, Jamie Deen Tweeted a message acknowledged the controversy without apologizing for his mom. "A heartfelt thank y'all to those who have sent love and support for mom and our family. #pray."
Paula's troubles began earlier this week after comments she made in a sworn deposition May 17th were filed in U.S. District Court on Monday. The deposition was part of a lawsuit filed by Lisa Jackson, a former manager of Uncle Bubba's Seafood and Oyster House, claiming she was sexually harassed and worked in a hostile environment filled with racial slurs and innuendo in the restaurant owned by Deen and her brother, Bubba Hiers.
When a lawyer for Jackson asked Deen whether she even used the N-word, she replied, "Yes, of course," but then added, "It's been a very long time."
The controversy gained steam later this week when she canceled a planned Today show interview with Matt Lauer scheduled for Friday. However, later in the day she issued two video apologies begging for forgiveness.
"Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable. I've made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I beg you, my children, my team, my fans, my partners – I beg for your forgiveness. Please forgive me for the mistakes that I've made."
WOODLAND CA (IFS) -- It has been reported to Woodland California police Department of the smash and grab robber of several of SDC OmniMedia Group main acrhival computers and laptops in an un-noticed and sleepy neighborhood at Coloma Way and Granada Drive early this morning. The computers contain sensitive information studies commissioned by the Library of Congress. The computers along with a Fostex 4 Track Audio recorder for KDTN BlogTalk Radio recording and editing, including a new Black Box Series computer digtial projector and many other electronic devices that were reported to the police.
Local Police Officer Parveen Lal of the Woodland Police department was not to surprised at the tackets used to smash the rear window of one vechicle and empty it of all its cotents of compressors, air nail guns, carpenter belt with saw-alls, drills and electric hammers.
Not stopping there, the thieves were not satsified with just that haul of loot, they also disabled the locking system on songwriter and record producer Kenneth Howard Smith, who was visitng his parents at this location.
Smith, explained to Officer Lal, that the computers were two (2) Compaq laptops from the Reno, NV offices and older Dell laptop from the Memphis/Nashville offices, and the custom engineered CHENBROS WORKSTATION Computer Server for broadcasting of audio for the SDC Radio One Networks that included over 50,000 songs of artists from 1927 to 2012.
Other archives included Coleman Kestin & Smith Audio Book Series created by Infotronics USA for higher education and broadcasting.
The backup computer included unreleased archived D-Town and Motown Records catalogs of songs written and produced by Smith along with Motown producer RG Ingersoll. Digital Compact Disc pictures of artists for D-Town releases included the Staple Singers, Lee Rogers, William Dean, Rosey Grier, Connie Van Dyke, The Precisions, The Undisputed Truth, Rare Earth, Fabulous Preps, Stevie Nicks, Sarah Fleetwood, Merrell Fankhauser and many other. The archived songs catalog are valued at $5 Million.
Smith added, that this area of Woodland was once the home to the mayor, and with the Middle and High School on the same street, was a fligship area, now afoot with gangs and individuals that have experienced home invasion in the middle of the day with people at home.
Officer Lal would not add if these are the same individuals that committed these crimes, but it appears that a pattern is slowly emerging for that area.
Smith added that the thieves stole his Garmin Navigational device with programmed data for many recording artists and their location of their private homes and offices. Smith also included that the device also contained addresses for many state and federal judicial officers as Smith used for arranging audio interviews for the KDTN BlogTalk Radio Show - Media In Review.

What do you think they may be capable of if Dorner drove by in an yellow car? They will still shoot at the gray one (the blue one). And let me make it very clear -- these guys really scare me. What school did these guys attend? For some unknown reason, they did not get to class much, or that day when the lesson was on identifying car makes and colors. Must have been a really tough class.
It makes me very ill that these guys are protecting the neighborhood. First, they are color blind. Secondly, they can't shoot. Third: they call themselves police officers. If this is LA"s best -- God help us all. At times like these, Ice-T's hit recording of "Cop Killer" raises its head. I hope that they know -- there is a lot of money they are leaving on the table and selling themselves very short. But I'm sure that the DA has let them know, that it's a great day to be alive, but you are going to wake up in the middle of the night with sweats and screams that will go on for the rest of your lives. $4.2 Million is not enough money that they will be giving to the doctors and lawyers forever.

Women's settlement with LAPD in Dorner case worth $4.2 million
LOS ANGELES -- A settlement has been reached with two women mistakenly shot by Los Angeles police during the manhunt for fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner.

The women injured when Los Angeles police opened fire on them during the manhunt for ex-copChristopher Dorner have reached a $4.2-million settlement with the city, sources told The Times.
Los Angeles City Atty. Carmen Trutanich announced a settlement had been reached Tuesday afternoon. More details were expected at a 2 p.m. news conference.
Margie Carranza, 47, and her mother, Emma Hernandez, 71, were delivering newspapers in Torrance on Feb. 7 when LAPD officers shot repeatedly at their blue Toyota Tacoma. Hernandez was shot twice in the back, and Carranza was injured by broken glass, an attorney for the women said.
The officers were protecting the home of a high-ranking LAPD official named in a threatening manifesto authorities said was written by Dorner, and they believed that the official could have been a potential target. Dorner at the time had already killed the daughter of an LAPD captain, her fiance -- a USC police officer -- and a Riverside police officer, officials said.
Dorner was believed to be driving a gray Nissan Titan, and there was an alert preceding the shooting that said a truck matching Dorner's was in the area.
LAPD Chief Charlie Beck called the shooting "a tragic misinterpretation" by officers working under "incredible tension" hours after Dorner allegedly shot police officers. Beck promised to provide a truck from a donor regardless of potential litigation by the women.
Last month, the women received a $40,000 check from the city to cover the loss of the truck.
When announcing the check had been delivered, Trutanich said the settlement was "the legal and morally right thing to do both for the individuals involved and the taxpayers of this city."
Here’s What CNN Should’ve Said About the Steubenville Rape Case

CNN's unconscionable coverage of the Steubenville Rape Case verdict is pissing everyone off. Newscaster Candy Crowley, general correspondent Poppy Harlow, and legal expert Paul Callan all did their very best to focus solely on the guilty verdict's repercussions on the two rapists. There's next to no coverage of the girl who was brutally raped; instead, they talk almost exclusively of the rapists— the two teenagers who had such bright futures, and now their lives are completely ruined from this one little indiscretion. Isn't it a shame how they suffer?
Let's not forget that these boys committed truly despicable acts and to all appearances showed no remorse or regret until they were faced with real-world consequences. But still, wasn't it so sad when they broke down crying upon learning they'll spend a few years in juvie? It was so sad that CNN forgot to talk about the sixteen-year-old girl whose life will be spent dealing with the ramifications of rape. After all, she left the house with a vagina; she KNEW the consequences.

No, my definition of stupid (among other things) is being your own worst enemy, and this seems to fit the bill on a lot of levels. To my mind, the fact that they bragged about it like there was nothing wrong with it adds a whole additional level of inhumanity. To that end, I'm hopeful that more charges will be forthcoming, as has been mentioned in local media (I'm from the area, not sure what everyone else is hearing.)

Women delivering papers shot by police during manhunt

Two women delivering newspapers were shot in Torrance early today by LAPD officers involved in a manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer suspected of shooting three police officers and an Irvine couple, sources say.
The women, shot in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue, were taken to area hospitals, police said. One of the women was shot in the hand, and the other in the back, according to witness Jesse Escochea.
Police said the women were riding in a truck similar to the one that suspect Christopher Jordan Dorner is believed to be driving.
